A. The Octonauts celebrate World Ocean's Day 6/8
---
Every year on World Oceans Day, people help protect our life-giving oceans.

Participate in a local event and spread the word with arts activities by the Octonauts!

Also the US government's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) launches a new monthly podcast with our favorite crew!

NOAA's Coastal Ecosystem Learning Center (CELC) Network is recording "NOAA & The Octonauts" to inspire kids and adults to learn more about the creatures featured in the Octonauts TV show. The first episode debuts on World Ocean Day, June 8th.

Remember: explore, rescue, and protect our oceans!

B. Create your own comics in Northern California
---
School may be out but reading is still in! Parents, teachers, and librarians know that it is important for kids to keep reading during the summer. But it is even more fun to write and draw your own stories!

Learn how to create your own comics in free public library workshops taught by author Oliver Chin. He will present at 10 branches in San Jose and encourage kids to enter the SJPL's annual graphic novel making contest.

He will also instruct at the Mountain View Public Library on June 24th. Come learn how to concoct your own characters and draw them in action!

C. Phil Amara visits Brunswick, Canada
---
Author Phil Amara speaks at the anime and game convention Animaritime from June 28-30th.

Founded in 2004, it is the first anime con to be held in the Canadian Maritimes.

Phil will present his colorful adventures:
- The Treehouse Heroes
- The Discovery of Ramen
- The Discovery of Fireworks & Gunpowder
and a sneak peak at the spectacular sequel in our children's picture book series The Asian Hall of Fame coming this fall!

The Year of the Horse
by Oliver Chin, illustrated by Jennifer Wood

"As she did in The Year of the Dragon and The Year of the Snake, illustrator Jennifer Wood continues to provide the same delightfully equitable page time for all the zodiac animals, adding another engaging level of 'hide-and-seek' for younger readers."
- BookDragon, Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center

Sid the Squid
by David Derrick

"...the staying power of this book has made me glad that I bought it. The more I read this book to my three-year-old son the more I appreciate it. My son loves Sid the Squid and I love reading it to him. We highly recommend this book."
