For the first time in a decade, a dragon boat festival will be inside the golden city of San Francisco!
In this energetic tradition, paddlers travel from near and far to compete. Young and older, the crews power 40-foot-long dragon boats through the water for glory.

See the heats and stay for cultural programming, vendors like us, and family-friendly activities.

Billie the Unicorn
by Brianne Drouhard
"...something about Drouhard's art grabs me and makes me feel like a kid again. She's got the gift of being able to infuse her art with storytelling; the characters she draws are expressive from head to toe. She often uses bright colors, and every piece looks like it belongs in a giant picture book (she has one of those by the way - it's called Billie the Unicorn)."

The Story of Kites
by Ying Chang Compestine
illustrated by YongSheng Xuan
"Fresh from creating noodles and chopsticks (The Story of Noodles; The Story of Chopsticks), the inventive Kang brothers take to the air.... The three boys, weary of chasing birds away from their family's rice fields, experiment with ways to fly and instead come up with one of the most popular inventions of ancient China. Traditional cut-paper art puts the wind in the sails of this charming story, appended with kite-making instructions."
