A. Happy Year of the Horse
---
Celebrate the 2026 Lunar New Year with
The Year of the Horse:
from our popular annual series
Tales from the Chinese Zodiac.
The lunar new year starts this week on Tuesday, February 17th.
Saddle up for an exciting adventure with Hannah the horse! This feisty filly has a proud family. Befriending the boy Tom, Hannah wants to make the most of her talents. But she may bridle at being underestimated. Not willing to take "neigh" for an answer, will Hannah succeed at blazing her own trail?s!
Hannah shares her amazing travels in a revised edition, bilingual in simplified Chinese. Colorfully illustrated by animator (and horse lover) Jennifer Wood, Hannah motivates readers to seize life's reins and gallop forward!
B. The Year of the Fire Horse
---
The Chinese zodiac's 12 animals combine with the 5 elements of alchemy (earth, water, fire, wood, and metal) to make a 60-year cycle of possibilities.
2026 is the year of the fire horse (which last occurred in 1966).
A horse's personality is confident and strong. These hard workers desire independence. Action oriented, these charismatic go-getters are adaptable but tend to buck authority. Combined with the element of fire, this year will be a hot one to remember!

The Discovery of Fireworks and Gunpowder
by Oliver Chin
illustrated Juan Calle
"With beautiful illustrations accompanied by simple text, this book is a great introduction to fireworks and how they came to exist... A wealth of precise and detailed information is presented in colorful and enticing layouts that are sure to captivate all readers. Even the topic of gun powder, replete with its initial primitive uses inside a bamboo flamethrower, is sure to fascinate readers... This is a great resource for science and cultural courses."

Animals Don't, So I Won't!
by David G. Derrick Jr.
"Disney Story Artist David G. Derrick Jr. leverages his craft to relate the needs and virtues of nature to children. Like Beatrix Potter and other fable-weaving artists of old, this form of storytelling through art has proved a magical medium for captivating young minds and imparting valuable lessons for centuries. Since Potter penned her first tale, the tradition has evolved somewhat. Digital tools help animate the artists drawings, yet illustration remains the foundation for educating children about nature and science."
