1. NEWS
A. See our new Kickstarter project
---
Last week, the USA celebrated its annual Independence Day with fireworks from sea to shining sea.
In that spirit, we're creating our newest book
The Discovery of Fireworks & Gunpowder!
Today we launch its Kickstarter campaign.
Back our project and get fantastic rewards, such as limited edition prints (illustrated by artist Juan Calle) and autographed copies.
Co-authors Phil Amara and Oliver Chin have penned this sequel to The Discovery of Ramen in our series The Asian Hall of Fame.
Now the kids Emma and Ethan wonder where fireworks came from. So the red panda Dao guides them back in time to where it all began - ancient China! They zip through the centuries to learn gunpowder's secret formula, evolving applications, and ultimately how it fueled the spread of colorful fireworks around the world.
This will be the first English language storybook about these two key inventions... ever!
Share the news with family and friends and we appreciate your support in the coming month.
B. Visiting Hip Wah Summer Program
---
This Saturday we visit the students of Hip Wah in Oakland, CA.
Founded in 1984 by parents who wanted to create a program of Chinese language, art, and culture, Hip Wah now enriches the lives of hundreds of children every summer.
"Hip Wah" translates to "cooperation among the overseas Chinese." The program welcomes families and adoptees who trace their roots to China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and other parts of Asia.
Immedium is happy to share our stories with those who value colorful Asian American role models, diverse themes, and meaningful narratives.
C. 2nd printing for
Sora and the Cloud
---
We're pleased to report that the 2nd printing of Sora and the Cloud is available.
Felicia Hoshino's lyrical tale of a growing boy's flight of fancy has enchanted families from the start. Sora's heartfelt prose and evocative watercolors continue to attract new readers.
"
Sora and the Cloud soars in more ways than one, and is a perfect story to share with very young ones who are starting to look at the world with wonder and amazement."
- Aline Pereira
Sora has even been used as an example in Teaching Children Philosophy!
