A. Max welcomes the New Year!
Monday, February 8th, is the start of The Year of the Monkey

Max is the son of the famous Monkey King and Queen - this fresh prince is an energetic hero! Enjoy the 11th adventure in our annual series Tales from the Chinese Zodiac.

Also this is our first story that is bilingual in simplified Chinese. What a great way to celebrate Chinese year 4714!

B. Southern California events
The illustrator of The Year of the Monkey, Kenji Ono is an animator at DreamWorks. Kenji shares Max's adventures in Southern California.

Saturday (2/6) in Pasadena, CA, Kenji autographs at the Chinese New Year festival of the USC Pacific Asia Museum. Then that same afternoon he leads a storytime and a drawing class at the Kidspace Children's Museum, next to the famous Rose Bowl.

Author Oliver Chin visits Los Angeles the last week of February. He joins Kenji to sign at the Huntington Library (2/20, 2/21) and Vroman's Bookstore (2/27) in Pasadena.

C. Upcoming Spring Book #2
In March, we reprint 5 colorful children's books by author Ying Chang Compestine. Redesigned, they feature new bilingual translations in simplified Chinese.

Here is a sneak peek at another book, which is the first of the 4 part series Amazing Chinese Inventions.

The Story of Chopsticks
Illustrated by YongSheng Xuan

The 3 Kang brothers use their quick wits to get in and out of trouble, while creating some of China's most amazing inventions at the same time!
- the youngest boy Kùai can't get enough to eat. Will using long sticks help Kùai grab food before the others can?

"Bold and beautiful cut-paper design in bright colors resembling stained glass, instantly draws our attention. Popular Chinese-American author Ying Chang cooks up a tale to let children in on the birth of chopsticks."

The Year of the Monkey
Tales from the Chinese Zodiac.

by Oliver Chin
illustrated by Kenji Ono

"The Year of the Monkey is a neat story... Through Max, young readers will see how persistence can pay off when they see Max not give up...There's plenty of action in this story to keep kids glued to the pages, plus it's the first time in the 'Chinese Zodiac' series that includes a Chinese translation along with the English text. Add in the bright, cheerful, and very playful artwork, and you have a book that young readers will love."
- Feathered Quill

"Start your own New Year tradition with this series by Oliver Chin...All are cute little stories that capture the symbolic spirit of the zodiac animal featured."
