Also The Year of the Dragon! will be our 2nd Apple app!
The launch date on iTunes is Chinese New Year (1/23/12). Produced with Mobad Media (following Billie the Unicorn, www.billietheunicorn.com), Dominic and friends will leap off the screen with entertaining narration, sound, and interactivity!
B. Sora and the Cloud fly high!
---
Readers and reviewers have been uplifted by Felicia Hoshino's) new story:
Sora and the Cloud
On January 4th, 2012, the New York Times Book Review called it "An Ode to Flying":
"It is tempting to label 'Miyazaki-like' anything appealing to children and Japanese in origin. But in this instance the analogy fits. The nameless cloud is a benign yet mysterious and uncontrollable presence as it lifts Sora, Totoro style, into the sky. There he views a skyscraper mid-construction, an amusement park, a festival of kites and other boyish marvels. Hoshino's intricate and delicate drawings deliver this parade of sightseeing pleasures in a way that is at once dreamlike and visceral."
- New York Times Book Review
Following a fantastic launch party in December at the JCCCNC (www.jcccnc.org) in San Francisco's Japantown, Felicia returns to autograph at their traditional new year's celebration "Oshogatsu Matsuri" on January 7th. Stay tuned to see her at a bookstore near you!
C. The Octonauts on American TV!
---
Already a hit animated TV series from the UK to Japan, the Octonauts are coming to America (in living color)!
--
Next week, the Octonauts TV show launches on the Disney Channel on Monday, January 9th!
The series airs weekdays at 11:30 am and weekends at 7:00 am, during the Disney Junior programming block.
The Octonauts introduce young viewers to underwater worlds and fascinating marine life. In each 22-minute episode, the team sets out to explore, rescue and protect unique underwater habitats.
--
Certainly the crew has traveled far since their first book was published in 2006. We and Meomi sincerely thank you, our dear readers.
We hope to go even farther this year and meet many new fans, and certainly value your ongoing support.
In honor of the occasion, the first person who orders at least 2 of the 4 Octonauts adventures will get a free 8x10 photo collage!
2. REVIEWS
Billie the Unicorn
- iTunes App
"This one is a must-have! The illustrations really do appear to be in 3D. Tilt your device to see the environment interact with you in ways you haven't seen before. This is the kind of app that requires you to take the time to tap and swipe around the screen because there are so many interactive features you won't be able to keep track. If you like, there is the ability to turn on hints that guide you toward the considerable number of hot-spots!"

Sora and the Cloud
978-1-59702-027-5, $15.95
"Prolific Japanese-American illustrator Felicia Hoshino makes her authorial debut in this delightful picture book…The bilingual text…displays a simple exuberance that perfectly matches the light, joyful subject matter…Hoshino's soft, Japanesque watercolors perfectly punctuate Sora's adventure and include plenty of references to Hoshino's native city of San Francisco (the Golden Gate Bridge and cable cars, to name a couple). The back matter includes a bilingual glossary, a list of Japanese short expressions, and a note on Japanese cultural inspirations. With its local appeal, cultural relevance, and textual and aesthetic grace, this is a welcome addition for Bay Area collections."
