Comic book author takes aspiring artists under his wing
Dublin Library hosts introduction to the craft of drawing graphic novels
By Kelly GustDUBLIN -- Comic book fans got a chance to create their own characters Thursday at a free "create your own comic book" session at the Dublin Library.
Comics artist Oliver Chin, the author of "The Adventures of WonderBaby" and columnist for "Comics and Games Retailer," showed those attending the basics of creating a graphic novel, including the creation of characters, stories and plot.
The session drew a diverse group of 19 future artists, including an 8-year-old and an artistic grandmother, said Donna Leach, Dublin Library's children's services librarian.
Leach said she was impressed by the drawing ability of those attending, including "one teen girl who was really quite good." Leach said she did not try her own hand at creating a comic book because "I know mine would be stick figures."
Chin, a professional comics artist from San Francisco, puts on his workshops at libraries and other venues around the greater Bay Area.
He is also the author of "The Year of the Dog" and "The Tao of Yao" books.
