B. Eastwind Books owner Bea Dong passes away

Founded in 1977 in Berkeley, CA, Eastwind Books gained the new owners Harvey and Bea Dong in 1996. Activists for civil rights and establishing multicultural studies in colleges, the couple transformed the store into the USA's leading Asian American and Ethnic Studies bookstore until its closing in 2023.
On August 15, 2026, Beatrice Tam Dong, after a long battle with cancer, died peacefully in her sleep in Oakland, CA.
Immedium has always appreciated the support of Eastwind Books. We enjoyed sharing our books with the help of Bea. Polite and gentle, Bea was a dedicated fighter for social justice and equality. Bea said "books are what makes revolution."
