B. Author news - David Derrick
---
David G. Derrick, Jr. is the director of Disney's film Moana 2, which recently topped box offices worldwide. Now the movie's global gross nears $1 billion, following the films Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2.
Of his colorful storybook Animals Don't, So I Won't!, David said:
"Learning about nature should be fun. In my picture books I use my art and storytelling to teach and entertain kids about nature. In [Animals Don't] I veil animal education with entertainment as Ben the main character tries to get out of cleaning his room by being a beetle, only to learn that if he really wants to be a beetle he has to clean someone else's mess…an elephant's. This fun pattern repeats itself as Ben tries to be a penguin, leopard, hippo, crocodile, bear, slug and chimp. With each scenario the reader learns a fun entertaining fact about the featured animal."
Check out all of David's 4 fun storybooks.
C. Learn the story of Chess
---
India's Gukesh Dommaraju became a grandmaster at the age of 12. Last month, the 18-year-old became the youngest world chess champion (and the 18th title holder since 1886). Mentored by 5-time world champion Viswanathan Anand, Gukesh wants to surpass the #1 player Magnus Carlssen.
Learn how India was the birthplace of the world's most popular game in The Discovery of Chess. This is the latest invention profiled in our series The Asian Hall of Fame.
See how chess evolved as it traveled around the world... and how Anand and Carlssen took their rightful places in chess history.
In February, we'll read the story to the youth chess club at the Bernal Heights branch of the San Francisco Public Library.

Justin Time: The Pancake Express
by Brandon James Scott
"Justin Time is about a boy named Justin, and his sidekick imaginary friend named Squidgy.... Olive is always waiting for them, to guide them through their latest destination. Best part? The destinations are real places in the world... Not only were the episodes engaging, they were educational in a fun way. And the level of information was perfect for their age."
