A. Immedium at ALA in San Diego, CA
---
We love meeting librarians! So we exhibited at this year's American Library Association (ALA) annual conference at the San Diego Convention Center (CA)
- Friday night (June 28) to Monday afternoon (July 1).
- Booth #126 in Artist's Alley
We shared and signed our storybooks with educators at America's largest library event. We donated an original artwork for the ALA Silent Auction, as did Alina Chau, artist of The Year of the Sheep and The Treehouse Heroes.
Immedium supports ALA's mission:
- to enhance learning and to ensure access to information for all.
- to foster equity by addressing systemic barriers to create welcoming, beneficial spaces
- to promote the public good by working to improve society and protect the rights to education, literacy, and intellectual freedom.
B. Chess in San Francisco
---
Twice this month, we present our storybooks at the Mechanics' Institute, a storied cultural center in downtown San Francisco, CA.
July 13th is the Mechanics' 170th anniversary! At their Family Book Fair + Open House celebration, we'll read our storybook:
The Year of the Dragon: Tales from the Chinese Zodiac.
July 20th is International Chess Day! The Mechanics' Institute is home to a world-renowned chess program. We'll read our educational adventure The Discovery of Chess: The Asian Hall of Fame.
Come join the festivities!
C. San Francisco Night Market 7/20
---
On the afternoon of 7/20, we'll table at the San Francisco night market in the Central Richmond District.
Visit Clement Street between 22nd - 25th Avenue from 4-8 pm.
This family-friendly event features diverse small local businesses. Enjoy arts and crafts, games, performances, and food. Our children's books appeal to the Bay Area community and visitors alike.
2. REVIEWS
Justin Time: The Big Pet Story
by Brandon Scott
"The colorful series whisks viewers along on the entertaining make-believe adventures of its protagonist, earning Emmy and Annie Award nominations, and a Canadian Screen Award and Rockie Award in the process. It's also garnered the sort of rabid fan devotion that any parent of a preschool aged kid could write a book about."

The Story of Kites: Amazing Chinese Inventions
by Ying Chang Compestine, art by YongSheng Xuan
"Traditional papercuts with strong black lines and vividly colored insets are perfectly suited to the kite images. An author's note provides information on kite history and instructions.... With its folkloric tone, this provides a sense of fun to a China unit or stands on its own as a story about creativity."
