A. May = Asian heritage month
---
In May, we celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
In 1979 US President Jimmy Carter established Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week. Nearly 50 years later, President Joe Biden's White House honored these "communities, whose ingenuity, grit, and perseverance have pushed our great American experiment forward."
Immedium is dedicated to publishing multicultural stories:

B. David Derrick directs Moana 2
---
David Derrick Jr. created 4 of our fun storybooks. Dave was a story artist on Disney's 2016 film Moana, which earned two Academy Awards nominations. In 2020, he became the director of the upcoming Moana TV series on Disney+.
CEO Bob Iger said, "We were impressed by what we saw, and knew it deserved a theatrical release." In February, Disney announced that Dave's project has become the film Moana 2, which will debut in theaters on November 27th.
Voice actor of the hero Maui, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at CinemaCon (Las Vegas, April 2024) told the crowd to expect "an all new crew, all new setting and, of course, new songs - you're welcome." In 2023, Moana was the most streamed movie of in America with 1 billion hours streamed on Disney+.

2. REVIEWS
Sora and the Cloud
by Felicia Hoshino
"Sepia-tinted images set the tone for this warm and inviting bilingual fantasy from Hoshino.... A line-by-line Japanese translation (but no transliteration) allows parents of both cultures to offer read-alouds, while end notes define Japanese expressions and explain cultural elements."

Awesome Asian Americans
by Phil Amara and Oliver Chin
illustrated by Juan Calle
"The engaging profiles provide deft historical context and are enhanced by bright, comic-book style illustrations. The text discusses the personal and professional challenges these individuals endured, including prejudice and racism."
