A. Book us "Back to School"
---
Families are eager to return to school this fall. Interrupted by the pandemic, "in-person" instruction (with the necessary safety precautions) is more important than ever for children's learning, assessment, and socialization.
Having children spend more time in the classroom (and less time on computers and phones) will encourage them to get back into books. There is no substitute for reading!
Immedium is also eager to resume "live" school assemblies and library programs. In the past year we did many videocalls with readers nationwide. But we prefer interacting with kids "in the real world" since they get even more inspired to write and draw.

B. More Japanese Stories
---
During the past two weeks, people have seen thrilling and captivating stories from the Tokyo Olympics. Now enjoy more fascinating and meaningful adventures with our Japanese-themed storybooks!
Sora and the Cloud by Felicia Hoshino
- our first storybook bilingual in Japanese
- the New York Times praised this wonderful tale:
"It is tempting to label 'Miyazaki-like' anything appealing to children and Japanese in origin. But in this instance the analogy fits. The nameless cloud is a benign yet mysterious and uncontrollable presence as it lifts Sora, Totoro style, into the sky"
The Discovery of Ramen
- first in our series on cool inventions from Asia, The Asian Hall of Fame
- it is the first English storybook about how these tasty noodles were cooked up in Japan. Soon ramen spiced up menus around the globe!
The Discovery of Anime & Manga
- bilingual in Japanese
- it is the first English storybook about how Japanese comics and animation evolved to entertain fans worldwide.
- spot dozens of your favorite characters and shows in this colorful journey!
C. Awesome Asian Americans sold out!
---
Thanks for your support - our first printing of our graphic novel Awesome Asian Americans: 20 Stars Who Made America Amazing has sold out! The 2nd printing will arrive soon. The Somerset County Library System of New Jersey recommended our illustrated anthology:
"From the eye-catching cover depicting comic-book style heroes to the 20 men and women profiled in short chapters, Awesome Asian Americans presents an appealing, and long-overdue collection of inspirational heroes past and present. Nonfiction books sometimes feel out of date by the time the reader holds the book in hand. Fortunately, that is not the case with this title.
"The introductory content of this collective biography feels timely, with mentions of the coronavirus pandemic, prejudice against Asian Americans and the escalating spike in anti-Asian racism and harassment. Authors Philip Amara and Oliver Chin explain that while those profiled come from various backgrounds, all have enriched America's culture, economy, and creative spirit."
Giveaway:
The first 3 people, who order an autographed book this month from our website, will get a free 8 x10 print.
2. REVIEWS
Justin Time: the Pancake Express
by Brandon James Scott
"It is refreshing to see a new series for this age group featuring a male character and with a focus on imagination and education. The book contains accurate scientific and geographic information, but it is presented as part of the adventure. In this story, the process of creating steam from coal is explained. Canadian geography is shown through the illustrations of the Rocky Mountains along with some iconic Canadian wildlife."

Desert to Dream:
A Dozen Years of Burning Man Photography
by Barbara Traub
"Traub's approach to her images is appropriately eclectic, yielding photographs as colorful as the festival itself and accentuating Burning Man's surreality, whimsy, and play with the occasional fish-eye lens. The night shots that make up the latter third of the book abandon all restraint and explode in color and light."
