A. happy Asian American Heritage month!
May is Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month. This is an annual commemoration of the contributions of APA cultures and citizens.

The immigration of the first Japanese to the United States was on May 7, 1843. Also the transcontinental railroad was completed on May 10, 1869, and the majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants.

Immedium shares many books about Asian American themes, such as:
- Tales from the Chinese Zodiac
- Sora and the Cloud (bilingual in Japanese)
- The Asian Hall of Fame (The Discovery of Ramen + Fireworks & Gunpowder)
- Julie Black Belt
- The Story of Chopstick, Noodles, Kites, and Paper + Boy Dumplings (bilingual Chinese)

We plan to publish more diverse stories about compelling characters in the future.

If you're near San Francisco this Saturday 5/4, have fun at Cameron House from 11 am to 7 pm. This non-profit in Chinatown has its 71st annual Carnival where you can get autographed copies of our books. Proceeds benefit their youth programs!

The first 3 people who order a book from www.immedium.com will get a free 8 x 10 print of Patty from The Year of the Pig!

On Sunday, Oliver and Ying Chang Compestine (author of The Story of Chopsticks) speak about diversity in kids literature on the 11:40 am children's panel of "Hey, That's Me!" at the nearby Young Readers Stage.

C. Phil Amara visits Toronto Comics Arts Festival

Julie Black Belt
by Oliver Chin, illustrated by Charlene Chua

"The ingenious illustrations of Charlene Chua drive the narrative as [the story] offers clever stealth lessons, affirming the rewards of dedication and practice. This charming volume makes Kung Fu fun & appealing - it's a book both my young children will want to read over and over!"
- Steve Lafler, graphic novelist

The Story of Noodles
by Ying Chang Compestine

"The cut paper illustrations look like mosaics one might find in a church windowpane...I really like this series. It involves the history of Chinese inventions that are now used the world over without much thought as to where they originated."
- Kid Lit Reviews
