A. New Spring Book #3
---
This month we reprint 5 colorful children's books by author Ying Chang Compestine.
- these stories featuring new bilingual translations in simplified Chinese.
- Ying visits schools throughout Hong Kong in March
Here is the second tale in the 4 part series Amazing Chinese Inventions.
The Story of Noodles
Illustrated by YongSheng Xuan
The 3 Kang brothers create some of China's most amazing inventions!
- Mama Kang plans to make dumplings to win the town's annual cooking contest. But when the boys prepare the dough...watch out! Crash! Now what can the family do with all these strips of boiled dough? Maybe call them "noodles"...
"Compestine's almost tongue-in-cheek tale is a nearly unbeatable combination of slapstick humor, fast pace, and food."
- The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books
B. Appreciating Young Readers
---
We've enjoyed meeting thousands of kids at dozens of schools, libraries, and community events this year. Certainly we appreciate their interest, creativity, and gratitude!
Sarah Griego Guz, Community and Arts Reporter for the Half Moon Bay Review, interviewed author Oliver Chin at our recent family storytime at the local California public library. Here is an excerpt:
"We wanted to introduce the Asian culture but recognize the Western point of view," said Chin. "We wanted to make a fun story that any child, of any background, could enjoy."...
As Chin read, the vibrantly diverse characters in his book flashed across the projection screen.
"It was important to us to include all the different faces in this room, in the stories we make," he said, speaking to the audience. "Because everybody deserves to be in a book."
C. Authors at Bilingual Education event
---
This month, three of our authors will autograph at the annual gathering of the California Association of Bilingual Education (CABE) from March 23-26th at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco, CA.

"Illustrated by professional animator Kenji Ono, the dynamic artwork makes the zodiac animals jump off the pages. It's great fun to look for all 12 animals appearing throughout the book... Max exudes energy and determination, two wonderful traits to carry into "The Year of the Monkey to achieve your dreams."
- Sampan
"Old meets new in this original story that celebrates the forthcoming "Year of the Monkey with superhero-style comic art...How Max and Kai, his human partner, progress through a big-time tournament makes for an exciting trajectory and a charming affirmation.
