A. The value of Summer reading
---
Alina Chau, artist of The Treehouse Heroes, has been named Cartoonist-in-Residence at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco, CA.

Meet Alina there on Saturday, May 10th from 1-3 pm (free event).

The museum regularly hosts professional cartoonist in its galleries: visitors can see Alina at work on her latest projects and learn everything you ever wanted to know about cartoonists–but were afraid to ask!

On 5/14 at 11 am, Alina signs at Illusive Comics and Games, 2725 El Camino Real, Suite 105, Santa Clara California.

Meanwhile, she is drawing the upcoming The Year of the Sheep for 2015, the 10th adventure in the Tales from the Chinese Zodiac series.

B. May - Asian heritage month
---
As you may know, the month of May commemorates the contributions and cultures of Asian Pacific Americans.

Recently American publishers have recognized that 90% of their children's books don't include diverse faces and themes. A March New York Times article "Where are the People of Color in Children's Books?" rekindled the debate, prompting School Library Journal to dedicate their May issue to the topic of diversity.

We founded Immedium in 2005 to address this very issue.

One-third of our stories (a dozen and counting) have been multicultural. We've introduced Asian American characters in
- Tales from the Chinese Zodiac
- Julie Black Belt
- Sora and the Cloud
who appeal to readers universally.

This fall, we'll produce our first Spanish bilingual adventure Good Dream, Bad Dream with Liberum Donum, artists from Bogota, Columbia.

Therefore we celebrate the symbolism of May with you. We hope to continue sharing your journey of cultural exploration and appreciation.

C. Everything is Awesome!
---
Yes, we all live in a Lego world ... and Lego knows that kids like The Octonauts!

The Legoland-affiliated aquarium Sealife is now selling our original four storybooks. With our books, visitors can take home more than just fond memories of underwater adventures.

There are Sealife aquariums next to Legolands at
- Kansas City, Missouri
- Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas

Plus there are two more locations in
- Phoenix, Arizona
- Charlotte, North Carolina

Julie Black Belt: The Belt of Fire
By Oliver Chin,
illustrated by Charlene Chua

"Yes, please have the author autograph this book for my daughter. She loves his first book, Julie Black Belt. We read it very night. She is currently a student in Kung Fu and has earned many belts. She feels that she can really relate to Julie's story."
- Y. Lombera

I'm the Scariest Thing in the Jungle!
By David Derrick

"This is a wrangle of bravado between a tiger cub and a little crocodile each claiming to be the scariest thing in the jungle..The rivalry between the two jungle juniors is a perfect text for the varied watercolor spreads. Young readers will want to play-act this one out."
- Deseret News
