A. Happy Year of the Snake
---
February 10th ushers in The Year of the Snake.

Suzie the snake is pleased to meet you!

Gung hay fat choy! (Cantonese)

Xin Nian Kuai Le! (Mandarin)

The Year of the Snake is the 8th amazing journey in our Tales from the Chinese Zodiac series.

Suzie and her best friend Lily ring in the new year at many places this month. Author Oliver Chin reads throughout Northern California, including festivals in San Francisco, Alameda (2/9), Sacramento (2/16), Oakland (2/17), San Jose, and Santa Rosa (2/23).

In Southern California, artist Jennifer Wood draws at Kidspace Children's Museum in Pasadena (2/10), and the weekend celebration at the beautiful Huntington Library (2/16-2/17). Then, Oliver visits LA during the last week of February to share the story at more schools and libraries.

We wish you a healthy, lucky, and prosperous season!

B. The Octonauts reviewed by Wired magazine's Geek Mom
---
Our complete set of 4 Octonauts adventures got a thumbs up from Wired's Geek Mom.

"The core focus of each story is exploration and the protection of the natural environment. It is clear through these tales that Meomi works to accomplish this through the education of young minds. Make something familiar and friendly, teach a little as you weave a narrative, and you promote great understanding and appreciation."

As a bonus, we share the reviewer Sarah Pinault's instructions on how to make crafty Octonauts felt masks. Become your very own favorite character! Download the PDF instructions here.

Then email us a photo of your little masked Octo-fan, and we'll post it for all to enjoy!

C. The Treehouse Heroes - Creator Interview
---
Sampan, the only bilingual Chinese-English newspaper in New England, recently interviewed Phil Amara and Alina Chau, the creators of the storybook The Treehouse Heroes.

"Amara and Chau established several guidelines for the Treehouse Heroes. First, they wanted superheroes that were unlike ones from DC Comics or Marvel. Second, they wanted kid-friendly heroes that appealed to both genders - not just boys - with heroic qualities, such as helping others. Finally, the book was set in ancient times, reflecting Amara's love of Asian mythology and Chau's Chinese heritage."

Read the full story and get an autographed copy of this fantastic quest.

The next two web-orders will get a free 8x10 print!

Animals Don't, So I Won't!
By David Derrick

"When a strong-willed child develops a unique way to handle life's everyday routines, his mother tackles these issues with great humor. Ben has games, books, and toys galore but his love of insects and animals is everywhere. Ben's love of animals often follows him in his everyday life. When his mother suggests that it is time to clean his room, Ben decides he is a beetle. Ben loves to say, "Animal's Don't, So I Won't". His mother takes it all in stride as she explains how beetles are the clean-up crew of nature which includes elephant dung. Ben quickly changes his mind and helps clean up. Ben will become a penguin, tiger, leopard, hippopotamus, bear, crocodile, shark and chimp. Ben thinks these animals will keep him from eating, brushing his teeth, taking a bath, wearing pajamas, washing his face and going to bed. His efforts are all to no avail as his mother explains her knowledge of animals and their behaviors. The illustrations in this book by David G. Derrick, Jr. are so clever and humorous that you can't help but laugh out loud."

Sora and the Cloud
By Felicia Hoshino

"This beautifully illustrated book is written in both English and Japanese, and includes notes to readers in the back to help explain the cultural significances mentioned in the book. Dream Big, Read… on a cloud, way up high in the sky with Sora… or in your imagination."
