A. Immedium at the Museum of Children's Art, UC Berkeley and Los Angeles Times Book Fair
---
Immedium is proud to participate in upcoming California art and literature events.
Charlene Chua, the illustrator of
Julie Black Belt, is featured at the
Museum of Children's Art (downtown Oakland). Their popular annual exhibit is "Once Upon a Time: children's book illustrators then and now."
Running from April 5 - May 31st, the gallery features the current work of children's book illustrators alongside art from their childhood. Charlene has generously donated a large color print of the book's page 3 (Julie and her heroine Brandy Wu) for the fundraising auction. Author Oliver Chin will attend the public reception on April 5th, 2-4 pm to sign copies. The next day, he will read
The Year of the Rat at Kepler's bookstore in Menlo Park.
The following week Oliver is a guest author at the
14th Celebration of Children's Literature at the University of California - Berkeley on April 12th. He will autograph books at Tolman Hall at the Graduate School of Education from 11:30 am - 2:30 pm.
Finally, at the end of April,
Meomi will autograph their two
Octonauts tales at the
Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at UCLA. Invited by Kinokuniya bookstore for the second year in a row, Meomi will be at Booth #327 on Sunday the 27th. If you're lucky, you might get a preview of their 3rd book!
B. Woollyhoodwinks #2: Junco
---
Coming this August is the kickoff adventure of the
Woollyhoodwinks. This month we introduce the second of these five cuddly woodland creatures.
Junco:
"Who's the leader of the club, that's made for you and me?" Well, in the world of the Black North Forest, Junco is the critter at the front of the parade. All of the 'Hoodwinks, by their nature, are pranksters of one sort or another but Junco is known as the sensible one. Whether it's organizing field trips under the forest brush, arranging craft supplies in your desk or initiating nightly story times, this levelheaded little love will keep your days well ordered and packed full of fun.
C. The "Gryffindor" of Monster Isle
---
Next is another profile from our rip-roaring children's book this September:
Welcome to Monster Isle.
Check out our boffo cover at
www.monsterisle.net.
Famed for his renderings of wild things from WOTC's
Magic the Gathering,
Dungeons & Dragons, and the
World of Warcraft, illustrator
Jeff Miracola is cooking up a special brew of beasties, such as…
The Griffin:
The king of beasts is the lord of the air and earth. It is part eagle (face, forelegs, wings) and lion (body). Lands ranging from Russia and India to Ethiopia and the Middle East have claimed its birthplace. Combining a regal bird's speedy flight and keen sight with a big cat's power and bravery, it is famed in Greek and Roman mythology, medieval heraldry, and chic boys' names. Protecting its golden nest from intruders, the griffin will surprise the Summers family on their visit to
Monster Isle!

But when his dear friend the boy Bing runs into trouble at his birthday party, it takes the quick thinking of a born rat to save the day! The colorful, simple illustrations are brimming with unfettered enthusiasm in this charming children's story."

The Octonauts and the Sea of Shade (ISBN: 978-1-59702-010-7, $15.95)
"The Octonauts & the Sea of Shade is the second book of life aquatic by the artistic duo known as Meomi. It exists both as a children's book and a dazzling burst of chibi artwork...The art is super cute and hallucinatory in a G-rated sort of way. The text sparkles too...You can't help but cheer for these perky Octonauts."
